Fête de la musique in Lausanne

Celebrate the summer solstice with music!

Where does the FDLM come from?

The tradition of celebrating the arrival of summer with music has existed in France since the mid-70s. It was thanks to the initiative of Jack Lang, François Mitterrand's Minister of Culture, that the event was officially established and generalized in 1982. A decade later, the Fête de la Musique made its debut in Geneva, Switzerland. After an encouraging first edition, the event rapidly expanded in 1993. More than 100 stages were set up in 40 different locations, with the participation of 6,500 professional and amateur musicians, as well as 5,000 school choir members. Over a three-day period, the festival attracted no fewer than 500,000 people.

Fête de la musique in Lausanne

Every year on June 21, the city transforms itself into a giant stage where music takes center stage, and where every street corner is filled with the sound of music. The strength of this event is that it's accessible to all, with plenty of places available and online registration.

Music takes over the streets of Lausanne:

The long-awaited Fête de la Musique transforms the streets of Lausanne into a musical playground. There are stages at Place de L'Europe, Place de la Louve, Cathédrale de Lausanne, Esplanade de Mont-Benon... Squares, parks and even establishments become the scene of live performances, where local and international artists perform to the delight of the public. It's impossible not to come across a concert that will make you appreciate the music of the summer solstice in the best possible way.

A varied and eclectic program:

Lausanne's Fête de la Musique program is renowned for its diversity and eclecticism. From energetic rock bands to melodious jazz ensembles, from electronic music artists to traditional choirs, there's something for every musical taste. The organizers make a point of offering a rich and balanced program, allowing everyone to discover new talent and let themselves be carried away by the music.

Apolline's recommendations:

Diggin': their subtle, fragrant soul will scent the walls of the EJMA

BIO: Diggin', a band that started out in 2020, quickly made a name for itself on the French-speaking Switzerland music scene with its subtle balance between soul music and indie pop. Today, the band has the opportunity to perform on various stages in the region and continues to prepare its next albums. "Deception" is their four-track debut EP, featuring catchy melodies and rich harmonies. Each track transports you into a universe ranging from more rhythmic soul to a more haunting indie ambience, the result of an original blend of the band's influences. The themes addressed in this EP are surpassing oneself, the value of effort and accepting discomfort. So many stages that make life contrasting and interesting. Who knows, maybe our disappointments are ultimately positive?

Imelda Gabs: A great voice that will undoubtedly shake the Place de L'Europe

BIO: Imelda Gabs, a 24-year-old independent artist and producer from Lausanne, is originally from Belgium and the Congo. She grew up in Switzerland, where she began studying piano, violin and singing at an early age. Composing became an obvious choice for her, and she soon began performing. At the age of 14, she made her stage debut at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (BE) alongside her late father, jazz pianist Doctor Gabs. In 2017, Imelda joined the Montreux Jazz Academy, where she performed one of her first compositions entitled "Heartbeat" with renowned bassist Marcus Miller. She was also invited to perform at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, opening for Lianne La Havas and The Roots. Imelda likes to get off the beaten track and offers her audiences an electro-acoustic journey rich in emotion, which her first self-produced single "Fallen Angel" fully embodies. In 2021, she presents her full band on the stage of Les Docks in Lausanne as part of the Proxima project, and the Montreux Jazz Festival invites her for the second time to join their program. She also opened for Camélia Jordana at the Les Créatives festival, and released her second single, "Alter Ego". Her debut album, "Synopsis", has just been released.

Sainte-Aube, a duo with strong emotions

BIO: Sainte-Aube is a band whose poetic universe blends trip-hop, rock and electro, creating a world both intense and fragile. Their songs are characterized by soft vocals, passionate guitars and bewitching, catchy beats. At the heart of their project, the lyrics question violence and dogma, while leaving an important place for the body and each individual's singularity. In this musical universe, Sainte-Aube explores profound themes and invites reflection on the human condition, society and the importance of individual authenticity.
